CIER, the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources invites applicants for the position of Research Associate, with a focus on sustainable economic strategies. The purpose of this position is to help to create sustainable local economies by leveraging First Nations’ natural resources to achieve economic benefits including enterprise development, asset-building and job creation through applied primary research and community capacity-building in accordance with CIER's Vision, Mission, and Principles (see www.cier.ca). Responsibilities will include assisting in the development of market-based strategies for a sustainable economy, development and analysis of business plans, internal success metrics and financial models.
About CIER:
CIER is a national First Nation-directed environmental charitable organisation. We offer research, advisory, education and training services to Indigenous communities, governments and private companies in four program areas: taking action on climate change, conserving biodiversity, protecting lands and waters, and building sustainable communities.
Requirements:
- Bachelor or Masters Degree in Community Economic Development, or Business Administration or Commerce.
- Relevant financial experience.
- Demonstrated negotiation, mediation and technical writing skills.
- Understanding and experience related to climate change, energy efficiency, renewable energy and adaptation.
- Demonstrated understanding of sustainability and its application.
- Previous research experience, preferably in an environmental or Indigenous institute or organization, including community-based work. Awareness of relevant environmental and Indigenous policy, legislation, and programs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills appealing to a variety of audiences. Current understanding/awareness of Indigenous environmental issues in Canada.
- Excellent time management skills. Innovation and leadership. Able to balance working independently and working within interdisciplinary teams.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical and multi-tasking skills. Knowledge and proficiency of MS Office applications.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute positively to the implementation of CIER's Vision and Mission, operate in a collaborative team setting, and maintain high productivity levels and quality of work.

This is a full time position in Winnipeg. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. We offer performance-based remuneration and compensation options are negotiable.
