An internship opportunity focusing on sustainability and community
Program Description:
This internship opportunity aims to provide a learning space and expertise for individuals or families interested in developing a local greenhouse enterprise. The Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative envisions a more local and just food system, and seeks to create opportunities for individuals or families seeking to farm and reenergize the local economy while doing so. The goal of this internships is to facilitate the establishment of the individual’s future greenhouse enterprise and to provide a network of trainers and mentors with specific greenhouse enterprise knowledge and give access to HMLFI general training.
About the Job:
One intern will be recruited for this Greenhouse Internship and take residence at the Harvest Moon Centre. Harvest Moon Local Food Initiative (HMLFI) will provide the intern with training and mentorship, seeds, greenhouse space, accommodations, and community. The intern will work with a mentor and the HMLFI coordinators to plan the construction of the greenhouse and business plan. Furthermore, the intern will learn budgeting and financial management for greenhouse production. The intern will be required to pass on his or her learning by mentoring the next seasons intern(s) as well as passing on seeds, pots, and business plans. There is no guaranteed remuneration for this internship, rather, the successful intern will be provided with an opportunity to earn the profits from the greenhouse enterprise they develop. Each year, the Harvest Moon Society will also seek funding to provide additional employment opportunities at the Harvest Moon Learning Centre, depending on the qualifications of the intern and the availability of funding. The intern also has the option of continuing on for a second growing season.
Eligibility:
The eligible Greenhouse Intern applicant must:
- Have an interest in starting their own greenhouse business or integrating greenhousing into an existing business.
- Have an interest in educating the public about sustainable agriculture and food.
- Be available to live in Clearwater for the growing season (and longer if desired).
- Experience with gardening or agriculture is desirable.
- Experience running a business is desirable.

- 500 word letter of motivation describing why they want undertake this internship opportunity
- One of the following:
- Resume that includes agricultural experience, or
- Short description of qualifications and/or experience around farming or operating a business (farm or otherwise)
