The Elmwood Community Resource Centre and Area Association:
Is seeking a Youth Employment Outreach Worker, (YEOW) for 37.5 hours a week. Rate of pay is to be negotiated based on experience.
The YEOW is part of a team that manages and operates the Elmwood Youth Employment Experience (EYEE). The EYEE program works to provide client assessment and case management in a Skills Link project for youth-at-risk.
The overall objective is to assist these youth in overcoming barriers to employment by assisting them to enhance their level of employability through an 16 week Employment Preparation Work entry project for youth-at-risk.
Key Responsibilities of the YEOWl:
- Interview clients to obtain case history and background information and participate in the selection and admission of clients to the program;
- Assist clients to explore career and education options and develop plans of action while providing necessary support and assistance;
- Assist clients in locating and utilizing community resources during the time with the EYEE program, as well as for 3 months after they have left the program
- Meet with clients on a weekly basis to assess their progress, give support and discuss any difficulties or problems;
- Assist in evaluating the effectiveness of programs by tracking clients’ behavioral changes and responses to intervention;
- Maintain contact with other social service agencies and health care providers involved with clients to provide information and obtain feedback on clients’ overall progress;
- Develop, implement and maintain a recruitment plan for both youth participants and participating employers;
- Develop and implement Action Plan (AP) for, and in consultation with, each youth participant
- Transportation support for clients requiring other resources to achieve success in the program;
- Maintain an ongoing list of businesses wishing to participate in the program, as well as those contacted who do not wish to participate.
- Perform work place drop-ins at the various businesses that participants will be completing their work experience with. This occurs once a week during the 7 week work placement.
- Prepare monthly reports and documentation
Qualifications & Assets:
- Completion of a college or university program in social work, child and youth care, counselling or other social science or health-related discipline is required or relevant experience.
- Experience and/or education in community development or social services
- Valid Class V license and own vehicle for use on a full-time basis.
- Experience working with youth at risk
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative, be flexible and work with a range of individual needs and demands
- Strong computer and writing skills
- Understanding of inner city communities
- Familiarity with Elmwood community is an asset
