About the Position

Term: July 1, 2011– September 2, 2011

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

Reporting to the Family Community Centre (FCC) Coordinator and in cooperation with Pregnancy and Family Support Services Inc. staff and volunteers, is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Summer Health and Recreation Program out of the FCC.

Key Responsibilities:

• implementing a Summer Program promoting mental health, emotional, spiritual and physical health
  
  • Coordinating the Summer Program ensuring availability, accessibility and quality of summer program activities
  • Foster growth and preservation of families
  • Support and recognize diverse social and cultural needs
  • Support special needs clients facing barriers to employment
  • Focused on building healthy lifestyles for clients including young single parents living in impoverished conditions
• Maintain open communication with clients regarding program activity
• Planning, organizing and advertising the summer program
• Locating speakers, scheduling, implementing and evaluating workshops
• Escorting groups on outings incorporating physical and educational activities
• Providing education on healthy meal planning and shopping for a family on a budget
• Attending meetings as required
• Networking with other community resources and writing letters for donationsOther duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Over 18 years of age
• Enrolled as a full time and returning student to school in the fall
• Experience and education in the social service field
• Commitment to families and a non-judgemental attitude to a wide range of lifestyles, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to speak, read and write English
