About the Position:

The Skills Bank is a Spence Neighbourhood Association community economic development (CED) project . The skills bank connects community members with odd jobs in the community. The summer skills bank worker will work with the program coordinators to support and enhance the skills banks

  • 37.5 hour a week, for 12 weeks,
  • Pay scale between $11-$13.

As requirements of the funding eligible candidates must be between 18-27 and must be a student


Duties:

  • Support in building connections to business’ and resident’s to local worker(s) in an efficient manner
  • Promote the Skills Bank to businesses, organizations and residents
  • Assist Skills Bank members to develop their skills and employment goals
  • Support in providing on-site training and supervision to Skills Bank members
  • Assist with the development of an employment continuum with House of Opportunities and Core Labour
  • Facilitate community training workshops
  • Run the tool lending library


Required Skills/Experience:

  • Excellent promotional/advertising skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Experience in the landscaping or construction industry
  • Experience in small business and/or human resource management
  • Ability to establish priorities and problem solve within a fast paced environment
  • Experience writing reports and be comfortable with office software.


Assets:

  • Community involvement/Knowledge of the Spence Community
  • Previous experience working adult education field or with people who have employment barriers
  • Knowledge of CED principles
  • Ability to use Access and other database or research software
  • Experience writing funding proposals
  • Second language
