Position Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Community Services, the incumbent of this position is responsible for the overall management of the Multicultural Wellness Program, including the day-to-day operations of the program and the supervision of staff, volunteers, and students. As a member of the Department Head team the incumbent is required to organize, coordinate, plan, and evaluate the program within the overall goal of Mount Carmel Clinic and in response to the diverse changing and challenging needs of the community.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences and/or Health Services (or combination of experience and education in a related field) with two years experience working with newcomer/immigrant/refugee communities and agencies.
- Master degree in Social Work, Administration and or Public Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years previous management experience
- Minimum of 2 years experience in grant/loan funding applications and/or proposals.
- Experience working with marginalized populations and/or inner-city communities
- Experience in areas such as addictions, family violence, child abuse and mental health issues, with a particular focus on expressed needs in newcomer communities.
- Very good understanding of cross cultural and inner city issues and ability to work with a diverse population in an team environment.
- Serves as liaison to other agencies working with newcomer communities and with formal and informal community networks.
- Responsible for ongoing program reviews, development and recommendations in consultation with the Director.
- Develops and maintains clinical program policies, procedures, and guidelines, particularly in response to federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, and best and emerging practices.
- Ensures that information and statistics are consistent with expectations of funding agencies.
- Monitors staff work through case reviews, progress reports, conferences and informal discussion to assure compliance with operational standards and established policies.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of issues faced by the immigrant and refugee population.
- Understanding of or interest in social justice/’Just Therapy’ approaches to counselling.
- Knowledge and understanding of issues impacting the health of inner city residents.
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultures and traditions.
