Position Summary
The Marquis Project is a Brandon, Manitoba organization that exists to “connect Manitobans with the developing world”. We are seeking a Program Coordinator for our educational programs, to ensure that we fulfill our educational mission and mandate to increase awareness and understanding of issues of global importance such as human rights, fair trade and other social justice issues, environmental sustainability, and international development.
The Program Coordinator will work closely with the Program and Youth Committees, to coordinate the public school program and help implement other member and public engagement events and activities, with an emphasis on engaging youth in the community and post-secondary system to facilitate learning experiences for children at the K to 12 level.
Responsibilities
- Foster relationships between Marquis and local and regional teachers, to maintain and enhance school programming
- Continue the development of quality lessons and materials, facilitate learning experiences for children and youth and recruit and mentor volunteers for education activities.
- Evaluate materials and monitor activities to ensure quality and continuous improvement
- ensure that the programming budget is used effectively and appropriately
- Seek out other funding sources to enhance programming and assist the board with fundraising activities
- Develop/maintain relationships and seek out partnership opportunities with like-minded organizations (governments, CIDA, MCIC, post-secondary institutions, other NGOs).
- Communicate with the Media as appropriate through news releases, interviews, advertisements, etc.
- Seek out opportunities to promote and publicize the work of Marquis through personal contacts, informational displays, off-site sales, speaking engagements, and internet.
- Support the Worldly Goods Coordinator on a relief basis, so she/he can accomplish tasks such as banking and errands (occasional)
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
- Post-Secondary degree or diploma ( courses in international or community development, environment and social justice issues are assets)
- Knowledge of international development issues and learning principles along with strong communication, public speaking and writing skills.
- Experience in organizing and coordinating activities and projects and supervising or coordinating the work of others, with youth engagement experience preferred.
- Strong leadership and consultative skills and the ability to work as part of a team with board members, staff, volunteers, and other organizations
- Computer skills—MS Office preferred
- Valid drivers’ license and access to a vehicle is essential
Working Conditions and Compensation
- This is a part-time (approx. 23 hours a week) position with a flexible schedule that continues until June, 2012 (with the possibility of extension).
- It requires periodic travel to rural schools and communities.
- Remuneration is approximately $350 per week.
