SALARY INFORMATION: The salary range is $56,361 to $88,064 per annum (Specialist/Professional, Phase 2) (rates are currently under review). The starting salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Centre for the Study of Co-operatives is an important regional, national, and international centre for research, teaching, and communication focused on co-operatives and co-operation. The successful candidate will promote the development of our research, outreach, and educational activities consistent with the interests of the co-operative sector, our students, the university, and other partners. As we celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives (2012), we will work together to raise the profile of co-operatives and co-operative research, and build new partnerships on campus and in the wider community.
NATURE OF WORK:
Reporting to the director of the Centre for the Study of Co-operatives and working closely with other affiliated faculty and professional staff, the Research, Education, and Liaison Officer will be responsible for a broad range of activities that assist the centre in maintaining working relationships with funders, sister research organizations, and relevant government organizations. The position includes work to support our co-operative studies graduate program and our outreach activities, including workshops and major conferences. In collaboration with centre staff and affiliated faculty, the incumbent will also be expected to develop and submit research grant applications to national and provincial funders. The incumbent is likewise expected to maintain and update an environmental scan in terms of potential research partnerships, funding opportunities, relevant conferences, and changes in the co-op sector. Some travel to national and international meetings is required.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Development and strengthening of research partnerships.
- Preparation of successful research and communications grant applications.
- Completion of collaborative and independent research projects
- Co-ordination of the centre’s seminar series and related public outreach and educational events.
- Recruitment, retention, and funding of graduate students in Co-operative Studies
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: A graduate degree in a relevant field and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience: Knowledge of and experience with co-operative enterprises and/or co-op sector organizations. Experience in grant writing and social research. Knowledge of community development and social economy organizations. Familiarity with university and community educational programming and approaches will be an asset.
Skills: Strong communication skills and capacity to build relations with partners in the co-operative sector, government agencies, and academic and community organizations; excellent writing, speaking, research, computer, and grant writing skills, and ability to work flexibly as part of a team of professionals and faculty associated with the centre.
