About the New Journey Housing:
New Journey Housing is a not-for-profit housing resource centre for newcomers to Canada. We provide information to newcomers regarding housing.
We aim to train, assist and support newcomers to Canada and those who support them, through the process of attaining and retaining decent, affordable housing in Winnipeg.
Responsibilities:
- Providing basic assistance to clients and helping to create a hospitable workplace atmosphere.
- Welcoming clients, answering questions about New Journey Housing or other referral services.
- Computer work, typing and research.
- Scheduling and managing office activities.
- Making phone calls or sending e-mails to other service agencies or landlords, as a way of supporting clients.
- Ability to work and communicate confidently with clients who are newcomers to Canada, as well as New Journey Housing staff and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively in a group setting.
- Ability to problem-solve with initiative.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma is a requirement. Post-secondary degree/diploma is an asset, with related work experience.
- Ability to use computers (typing, on-line research, managing e-mails, etc.) and photocopier/fax machine.
- Organizational and managerial skills, with an ability to take on administrative assistant duties.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Experience working with newcomers to Canada is an asset.
- Fluent in English, as well as an additional language(s).
- Genuine interest in helping newcomers to Canada and working cross-culturally.
- Interest in housing, housing issues, housing policy, etc.
- Experience as a tenant and/or homeowner is an asset.
Terms of Employment:
- This Receptionist employment position is a part-time position including the following hours:
- Mondays & Wednesdays= afternoon only
- Tuesdays & Thursdays = all day (7.5 hours)
- Expected weekly hours: 20-25 hours/week.
- Expected Start Date: August 29, 2011.
- Wage is commensurate to applicable experience.
