About the Position:
Reporting to the Program Manager who is located in Ontario, the half-time Manitoba Field Coordinator is responsible, together with the other half-time Manitoba Field Coordinator, for implementing projects and exploring new project possibilities in rural and urban areas throughout Manitoba that promote food sovereignty and strengthen local and provincial food systems through integrated programming in sustainable livelihoods, education, and advocacy. The position ensures that current and prospective project partners are supported in the areas of system level analysis, participatory community development, technical agricultural information, project design, implementation and monitoring, organizational capacity building and leadership skills development.
This half-time, 9 month position is an integral part of a national team working together to build and maintain an interconnected portfolio of impactful projects.
The salary range for this position is $22,500 - 25,000 per year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Actively participate as a member of Heifer Canada’s Programmatic Team.
- Support current project partners in Manitoba to implement, monitor and evaluate projects by assisting with training needs, technical information, and reporting.
- Meet with prospective project partners in Manitoba to inform them of Heifer Canada’s activities and explore possibilities for partnering with Heifer Canada.
- Assist prospective project partners with project development and community building by facilitating a community-based participatory planning process.
- Promote Heifer Canada’s work within Manitoba through public speaking and by participating in relevant conferences as discussed with the other Manitoba Field Coordinator and the Program Manager.
- Manage and maintain accurate and up to date information about Manitoba projects in conjunction with the other Manitoba Field Coordinator and submit all necessary information to the project management system in an accurate and timely way and prepare reports and plans as required.
- Explore opportunities for collaboration between Heifer Canada and Manitoba NGOs.
- Manage operations budget for Manitoba together with the other Manitoba Field Coordinator, and prepare monthly expense reports.
- Support organizational fundraising efforts, as requested.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in appropriate field; minimum requirement of two years’ experience in and knowledge of rural and urban agriculture, community development and working with limited-resource communities is preferred. Other job related education, experience or training may be substituted for all or part of these requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of and experience in sustainable rural and urban agriculture practices, food system analysis, and participatory community development.
- Experience with the project development cycle, including project development, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
- Experience in project budget management.
- Proficient computer skills in standard office productivity software (MS Office) Presentation, organizational, and budgeting skills.
- Have a valid driver’s license and able to drive a motorized vehicle.
- Ability to cooperate effectively with all staff, project partners, and collaborating organizations.
- Ability to work flexible schedule with some travel.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally.
- Ability to foster and maintain a spirit of unity, teamwork, and cooperation among all personnel and volunteers within Heifer Canada.
- Sensitivity in working with multiple cultures and belief systems.
