About the Position:

The successful candidate will assist the Manitoba Cooperative Association (MCA) to coordinate activities to celebrate the IYC

Background Information:

The Manitoba Cooperative Association (MCA) is the provincial association of cooperative organizations, created by its members to enhance and support the development of a united, growing and influential cooperative movement in Manitoba. The MCA serves the common and individual needs of cooperatives in the areas of development, education, youth leadership, government relations and global awareness.

On December 18, 2009, the United Nations proclaimed 2012 as the Internal Year of Cooperatives. To help MCA promote this momentous occasion within the Province of Manitoba, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to raise awareness within the cooperative community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and administer various online communication tools such as newsletters, bulletins and social networking sites to promote the IYC
  • Promote awareness of IYC throughout the cooperative community by developing partnerships with media
  • Develop supporting materials as necessary (brochures, Powerpoint presentations, etc.)
  • Assist in the planning and the promotion of activities throughout 2012  Ensure established budget is being strictly adhered to  Administrative support including oversight of and reporting on IYC initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Strong administrative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office, Powerpoint, Publisher, web based software and social networking sites
  • Experience with non-profit organizations and/or cooperatives will be an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Working Conditions:

Hours: Flexible work hours of 15 – 20 hours per week at the MCA office during regular office hours (8 am – 5 pm). Some weekend and evening work may be required as needed.

Compensation:  $13 - $17 / hour. Wage will be dependent on experience.

Term: This is a one-year term position which is expected to start beginning of October 2011 and end in at the end of October of 2012.
