About the Position

Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking for a program coordinator for Building Belonging, a program for 6-12 year olds in the Spence Community Full-time position 37.5 hrs Wage according to experience $14-$15/hr

Building Belonging is an afterschool program Monday to Friday for 6-12 year olds, which works on building connections between kids and the community. We are looking for an individual who is very organized, motivated and takes initiative. This Program Coordinator works directly with the Activities Coordinator to implement the program, so teamwork and communication skills are very important.

Duties include:

Planning, organizing and setting up daily after school programming

  • Work side by side with activity coordinator to run the Building Belonging program
  • Finding ways to build belonging – connecting kids to the community
  • Recruiting, managing, training and scheduling volunteers - Planning, preparing and serving a daily meal to 50+ kids
  • Keeping record of, and reporting monthly on volunteer hours, attendance and activities
  • Taking a lead in communication with staff, volunteers and families
  • Family engagement in programming and special events
  • Fundraising and sustainable fund development

Requirements:

  • Experience organizing programming for 6-12 year olds.
  • Education or training in coaching, teaching or recreational programming.
  • Provide clear direction and feed back to volunteers, youth participants and Jr. Staff
  • Have an in depth understanding of inner city communities
  • Be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Enjoy team work and be willing to assist other program leaders
  • Able to provide a current criminal record check and child registry check
  • Be able to work afternoons/evenings
  • Have a Drivers Licence.

Assets:

  • Experience in coaching sports, working with youth or supervisory role
  • Creativity and ambition
  • Current First aid and CPR training are assets
