About the Position:

The North End Community Renewal Corporation is a non profit organization with the mandate of social, economic and cultural renewal of the north end. The organization is seeking a Greening/Food Security Facilitator to support and promote opportunities for north end residents to access sustainable, nutritious food through food security and greening activities.

Salary: One year contract, ($30- $36,000) dependant upon qualifications and funding

Responsibilities:

Reporting to a Steering committee, comprised of project partners, the Greening/Food Security Facilitator is responsible for:

  • Researching, planning and information sharing on existing and potential Food Security projects through community forums and ongoing community consultations;
  • Facilitating partnerships between North End organizations/agencies that are involved in community gardens and food security activities such as community kitchens and good food box programs
  • Increasing resident’s capacity and knowledge of food security especially youth, seniors, Aboriginal, newcomers, and low-income through intersectoral partnerships;
  • Promoting the wellness values of community gardens in the North End to health providers;
  • Supporting community garden initiatives; (includes existing and new initiatives)
  • Developing new green space for community gardening;
  • Furthering the development of the North End Food Security network;
  • Helping community groups to develop skills to improve food security through workshops and other educational means.
  • Administrative duties, including developing project funding proposals, submitting project reports, staff reports, data collection

Qualifications:

  • Experience working/ familiarity of the inner city/ north end of Winnipeg
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated skills in mediation, conflict resolution
  • Good working knowledge of computer software: MSWord, Publisher, Outlook
  • A commitment to build strong healthy families and communities
  • Some evening work may be required
  • Experience in Greening and Food Security activities, is an asset
