About the Position:
Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking for a Rental Coordinator for the Spence Neighbourhood. This position is 30 hours a week, wage between $14-$16/hour.
The Spence Neighbourhood rental program, provides, advocacy, safety and support to renters, landlords and rental property owners. The eligible candidate will be able to liaise and work with all three groups to create programs for tenants in our community. This position will be address issues like rental safety concerns, bed bugs and more. An important part will be working with landlords and tenants to make and keep housing safe and comfortable.
Requirements:
- Excellent interpersonal skills, motivating landlords, caretakers and tenants to take responsibility for finding and implementing solutions to rental related problems
- Ability to advocate where needed
- Ability to help individuals and groups identify and achieve their goals
- Ability to organize learning for caretakers, tenants and landlords and/or refer them to learning opportunities
- Use a case management approach for tenants needing follow-up
- Ability to assess clients as to their ability to negotiate services, giving assistance as required.
- Self starter with an eagerness to see progress while not taking over the responsibilities of others.
- The ability to use email, WORD, Excel and HIFIS data entry considered an asset
Duties Include:
- Organize tenants and tenant groups for the care of their rental units and buildings
- Advocate for both landlords and tenants with the Rental Tenancy Branch, Employment Income Assistance programs and other service agencies.
- Find services and resources for tenants, helping those who need the extra attention to assure they get the resources and supports they need. Where possible, motivate tenants to help each other.
- Assist and instruct tenants in doing condition reports and keeping them secure for future reference
- Assess what is needed in a unit to make it liveable, encourage landlords to meet their responsibilities and organize repairs as needed
- Provide training for existing and potential caretakers so that they are able to meet the needs of tenants in the Spence Neighbourhood
- Assist the Homelessness Outreach Mentor in the development of a Tenant Committee
- Coordinate with Skills Bank Coordinator to hire and train local workers to do repairs authorized under the program.

- Current First aid, CPR training
- Creativity and ambition
- Experience working in the inner city community
- Experience working with organizations such as WMBA and WYSA
- Class 4 Drivers License
