About the position:
Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a summer Community Food Security Assistant. This is a 12 week position, 35 hours per week, at $11/hr from June 7 – August 29, 2012. Food Matters Manitoba (FMM) is a registered charity that engages Manitobans towards healthy, sustainable, and fair food for all.
The successful applicant will work with other project staff to:
- Assist Community Liaison and Dig In Manitoba Coordinator to increase and improve community food security work through partnership development
- Assist in strengthening Manitoba’s Food Security Network and increase connections
- Promote healthy eating through dialogue and education resources
- Assist with other projects and tasks when required
The successful applicant must be available for Saturday Farmers Markets and occasional evening farmers markets with a valid driver’s license and preferably access to a vehicle.
ABOUT YOU
- Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
- Have a strong interest in and knowledge of food security and community development issues
- Highly organized with proven attention to detail
- Able to exercise independent judgment but work well as part of a team
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- High level of computer and internet knowledge especially Word
- Self motivated and a team player
- Able to multitask and meet deadlines
- Previous community development education and/or experience is considered an asset
Participants must also meet the following HRDC criteria:
- between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection
- a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- legally entitled to work in Canada & legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations
