Wage: $12.00 / hour

Hours of Work: Up to 40 hours/week; some evening and weekend hours required. This is a 12 week term position.

Start Date: To start immediately.

DANIEL MCINTYRE / ST. MATTHEWS COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (DMSMCA)

DMSMCA is a non-profit community renewal organization. We work with residents and stakeholders towards social, cultural, economic and environmentally sustainable renewal and revitalization of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities:

1. Outreach –

To assist the Communications and Outreach Coordinator in organising the DMSMCA spring, summer and  other general community events, in collaboration with DMSMCA Events Committee.

Tasks will include:

  • Assist with planning, organizing and putting on the events;
  • Assist with promotion and outreach to the community and community partner organizations;
  • Assist with attaining sponsorship and donations to support various DMSMCA events ;
  • Assist with organizing and facilitating committee meetings;
  • Assist with the recruitment and management of community volunteers;
  • Assist with management of the DM/SM Oral History Project;
  • Assist with the research and production of the West Central Guide; and
  • Networking with various community partners to support the work of DMSMCA in the community.

2. Admin –

To assist the Executive Director with the following administrative systems/programs.
Tasks will include:

  • Research on funding programs to support DMSMCA programming;
  • Community Resource Centre Development - finding new and updating current resources available to the community in the new Centre; and
  • Assist with updating of administrative files.

Qualification, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Background in community based planning and community initiatives implementation;
  • Event planning and organizing;
  • Project Management;
  • Community development approaches and practices;
  • Strong organisational skills;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong collaboration and networking skills;
  • Public consultation methods;
  • Report writing;
  • Ability to work independently; Understanding and appreciation of inner city communities; 
  • Computer capability
  • Some knowledge of desk top publishing /design etc. (posters, flyers, newsletter) would be an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in Community Development approaches and practices
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends

Assets:

  • Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre St. Matthews Community (preference given to DM/SM residents);
  • Valid driver’s license and occasional access to a vehicle; and
  • Knowledge of CED principles.
  • Other Information:
  • Must be between the ages 16-30.
