Job Description

Point Douglas Residents Committee has received funding from Canada Summer Jobs program for a CED Outreach Assistant to work from June to September 2012. Applicants must be university/college students who plan to return to university or college in Fall 2012.

Job summary:

Point Douglas has a number of residents who are underemployed or would benefit from earning more money. This position will plan, deliver and evaluate a number of community consultations to find out what residents want as far as initiatives to help increase their income. They will help the Program Manager develop a work plan to achieve the identified goals. They will also inventory existing employment development programs and resources in the North End.

Task Description:

1. Planning / Consultations

  • Liaise with residents and conduct a needs assessment for income boosting initiatives
  • Analyze existing features and recommend improvements
  • Consult with PDRC’s partners and stakeholders to determine gaps
  • Develop initial plans to fill gaps

2. Office Administration

  • Develop and maintain an accurate record of all activities/initiatives
  • Prepare progress reports as requested and/or required
  • Assist Program Manager with daily office tasks such as phone calls, filing

3. Events / Meetings

  • Assist with events such as the Annual General Meeting, Canada Day celebrations and Austin Street Festival
  • Assist with youth cooking classes when needed
  • Attend food security and greening meetings on behalf of PDRC
  • Liaise with other groups in the North End and at the Social Enterprise Centre doing similar work

4. Other tasks as assigned

To be eligible, the student applicant:

  • Was registered as full-time student during the preceding academic year and studying in a field related to the position
  • Intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic year;
  • Is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, vocational or technical program;
  • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of the selection;
  • Is legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Does not have another full-time (over 30 hours per week) summer job;
  • Is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations (with regard to the minimum age, for example).
  • Has a good level of computer knowledge
  • Is a team player

RENUMERATION: $13.00 per hour for a total of 480 hours. This is a 40-hour /week position. Start date is Monday, June 11
