Food Matters Manitoba is hiring 1-2 Growing Local Conference Assistants. These positions will be based out of Winnipeg, $12/hr + 4% vacation pay beginning November 2012 to March 2013. Evening and weekend work is required nearing the conference (February 28-March 2, 2013). Total hours will range from 200-450 hours per position, although hours will vary from month to month.
About the Position
Work with the conference coordinator and other staff to coordinate Growing Local communications and all general conference tasks including:
- Media sponsorship & media coverage
- Press releases & general media contacting
- Poster distribution
- Growing Local website updates
- Presenter & Display coordination (inputting information, contacting, follow-up)
- Registration coordination (inputting, follow up & payments)
- Volunteer coordination (contacting, assisting with organization)
- Sponsorships (inputting information, contacting, follow-up)
- Ticket dissemination
- Mail merge & badges/name tag/buttons for conference
- Updating the FMM website and contact databases
- Using traditional and social media to establish a greater organizational presence and public awareness of food security in rural, urban and northern Manitoba
- Other duties as required

The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- Exceptional organizational skills with proven attention to detail
- Strong time management and able to multitask and meet deadlines
- Event experience
- Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and function well in a busy environment
- Be self motivated and a team player
- Able to exercise independent judgment
- High level of computer knowledge, including Word, Excel, and Access
Additional skills that are considered an asset:
- Proven web and social networking capabilities, and knowledge of new media
- Experience and/or training in Communications and Public Relations
- Basic layout and design skills, and familiarity with Publisher
- Experience in volunteer coordination
- Knowledge of, and interest in, food security
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
