The North End Community Renewal Corporation is a non profit organization with a mandate of social, economic and cultural renewal of the north end of Winnipeg. The organization requires a part time Event Planner & Coordinator to work with partner organizations to plan, organize and coordinate community events and other activities that support local neighbourhoods within the north end. This includes events such as the annual Picnic in the Park event, National Aboriginal Day, various workshops, community consultation meetings, and supporting special projects within north end neighbourhoods, such as the Urban Green Team.
This part time position requires the individual to work flexible hours, including evenings and some weekends
Reporting to the Community Development Director, the Event Planner Coordinator will be responsible for:
- Providing support to local neighbourhoods to undertake neighbourhood revitalization activities through student summer employment programs (UGT, HRSD, CAHRD)
- Securing funding for and supervising summer staff (i.e. Urban Green Team Coordinator, Picnic in the Park Coordinator)
- Provides orientation and training for Urban Green Teams
- Facilitating planning meetings, liaising with government departments, supporting sub committees to organize and implement activities for events
- Secures permits, venues, food, entertainment etc. for all events
- Recruiting, supervising and coordinating the activities of volunteers, including volunteer screening, placement, and training.
- Develop promotional materials and packages, coordinate press releases
- Ensuring the events/ activities fulfils all building, health and safety requirements
- Complete internal and external reports, financials and other administrative duties, as required
- Develop and implement an evaluation process
- Regularly attend community meetings in order to build capacity and establish networks between organizations
Qualifications:
- University Degree or College Diploma in a related field
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills
- Experience in writing formal reports, proposals, and media releases
- Knowledge of North End
- Ability to create, organize and maintain financial budgets up to $20,000
- Strong communication and organizational skills with superior attention to detail
- Good follow through and demonstrated delivery on project objectives
- Ability to work independently
- Proven leadership ability
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Windows XP and Microsoft Office applications
