About the Position:
Spence Neighbourhood Association is looking for a Weekend Youth Program Coordinator to run the weekend program for 13-18 year olds in the Spence neighbourhood. This is a part time position at 14-20 hours per week. Wage is $15/hr with room for growth. *Note: this is a weekend evening position. Applicants must be able to work Saturday and Sunday evenings 6pm -10 pm and one or two evening shifts during the week.
The Weekend Youth Program Coordinator will be responsible for working with a team to plan and run the weekend youth drop-in. The weekend youth program runs Saturday and Sunday: 6pm to 10pm. This position will work closely with the Youth Programs Coordinator, the Newcomer Outreach Coordinator, Youth Outreach workers and City of Winnipeg staff to enhance and support our strong weekday programming by offering programming on weekends.
The applicant:
- Must have experience organizing programming for 13-18 year olds.
- Must have experience working with inner city youth
- Must have education or training in coaching, teaching or recreational programming
- Must be able to provide clear direction and feed back to volunteers and youth participants
- Must have an in-depth understanding of inner city communities and the issues facing youth
- Must be able to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Must enjoy teamwork and be willing to assist other youth program leaders
- Must be able to provide a current criminal record check and child abuse registry check
- Must be able to work afternoons/evenings
- Must be able to self- motivated and able to work independently with little supervision
- Must have Class 5 Drivers licence
- Current First aid and CPR training and Class 4 Drivers Licence are assets
- Creativity and ambition an asset
Duties include:
- Plan and run weekend programming for youth including outings, activities and meals
- Supervise and provide mentorship to youth ages 13-18
- Deal with discipline issues using Restorative Justice techniques
- Provide supports and resources to youth and families in the community
- Record keeping and report writing
