The West Central Women’s Resource Centre (WCWRC) provides services and programming to women and families in the West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg. WCWRC is seeking a Community Support Coordinator to assist in the delivery of WCWRC’s volunteer program, drop-in and general services while directly supporting community women. Our work is done using an empowerment and harm reduction philosophy.
Start Date: December 17, 2012 34 hrs/week
Responsibilities
- Provide overall coordination, staff supervision and financial management of Volunteer Program, Drop In Program and General Programming
- Support and mentor volunteers, including coaching, conflict resolution, crisis counselling and goal setting
- Organize and hold volunteer meetings, workshops, appreciation events and trainings
- Develop and conduct program promotion and volunteer recruitment and placement
- Plan and host community events, trainings and celebrations
- Provide general coordination and facilitation of general services
- Develop and conduct program evaluation
- Assist with fundraising through report and proposal writing and special event planning
- Provide on-going informal support, referral and direction to community women using the Centre
Qualifications
- Accessible to and supportive of community women
- Experience supervising and mentoring several staff members
- Experience recruiting, placing, and mentoring significant numbers of volunteers and practicum students
- BSW or similar education, training and experience
- Experience providing counselling or peer support
- Excellent interpersonal communication and conflict management skills with the ability to provide informal mediation
- Excellent writing and computer skills; keen ability to prepare reports, letters, forms, and record keeping.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, etc.
- Experience with program budget management
- Experience with event planning and strong organizational skills
- Comfortable working in fast paced environment
- Awareness and sensitivity to issues of marginalization (sexism, racism, classism, etc.) and cultural diversity
- A strong understanding of the West Central community
