East Scarborough Storefront has a unique approach to community development that uses the power of collaboration to support people and build community.  Storefront staff helps build relationships and help foster local connections between and among community members and organizations, linking them with each other and with opportunities and resources.  East Scarborough Storefront is a project of Tides Canada Initiatives.

 

The Position

 Purpose:  To ensure that employment, and other economic opportunities, supports and strategies are developed and utilized in innovative and effective ways to improve the economic wellbeing of residents of Kingston Galloway Orton Park. 

 

The specific responsibilities for this position include:

-  Playing a lead role in the development and implementation of Local Economic Opportunity strategy
-  Providing leadership and supervision to a professional team responsible for providing a wide of supports and opportunities for job seekers, entrepreneurs and local businesses
-  Working with a diverse group of individuals and organizations to create conditions that contribute to the economic vitality and prosperity of the neighbourhood 
-  Working within the frameworks of the Resilient Neighbourhood Economies project (Metcalf Foundation) and Employment Ontario (Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities)
-  Initiating and facilitating networks of people with varied interests and expertise who wish to improve the economic wellbeing and resiliency in East Scarborough
-  Working with key Storefront team members  to broker  relationships between and among entrepreneurs, businesses and those who can provide them with information, resources and opportunities
-  Using appropriate analyses of neighbourhood assets, labour market and demographic information to develop and adapt economic strategies
-  Articulating local economic initiatives and strategies in presentations, funding proposals and reports, on websites and in publications.
-  Ensuring the smooth running of the employment resource centre which is a unique space within the Storefront service delivery hub
-  Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation including Employment Standards, Health and Safety and Human Rights
-  Compiling, maintaining and reporting on monthly, quarterly and annual statistics
-  Playing an active role on the Storefront’s Coordinating team and making a positive contribution to the organization as a whole

 

Qualifications:

-  At minimum of two years demonstrated experience in a leadership role: both leading a staff team and facilitating networks
-  Relevant post secondary education related to economic development in a community context
-  Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to initiate and implement innovative projects to address complex issues
-  Knowledge of issues, trends and legislation pertaining to employment and labour market research
-  Ability to motivate others to try new approaches to creating local economic change
-  Understanding of the benefits of using collaboration to enhance service delivery
-  Flexibility to perform a wide variety of tasks
-  Self motivated
-  Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
-  Excellent team player

 

Full time Monday to Friday, schedule to be determined, some evening and weekend work required.
