POSTING: Project Director, Full-time
The Base is a new project of Tides Canada Initiatives Society, a Canadian Registered Charity.
Tides Canada Initiatives Society (TCI) is a growing operating charity that houses over 40 social and environmental projects across the country. TCI provides a shared administrative platform for its charitable projects, and is the only organization of its kind in Canada.
The Base supports emerging initiatives engaged in community based change making with quality administrative, financial and HR support, along with capacity building and opportunities for collective learning and action. Currently there are four Initiatives resting on The Base: Seed to Table, Lost Lyrics, People Project and the York Youth Coalition.
The Position:
The Base is hiring its inaugural full-time Project Director. The Project Director is responsible for supporting all aspects of the development, implementation, and evaluation of the project. As a project in its early stages of development, the Project Director is the sole staff person of The Base. The successful candidate will ensure that sufficient funds are raised to support the project and its Initiatives as well as facilitate connections to capacity building and collective learning. The position is based in Toronto.
This is a one-year contract with the ability to extend with additional funding secured.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy and fund development:
· Provide strong leadership to The Base and work with its steering committee to implement and evolve its strategic plan
· Develop and implement a plan to ensure the financial sustainability of The Base, including working with and cultivating diverse sources of financial support
· Select and support Initiatives that fit the criteria of The Base
· Develop and maintain partnerships with existing capacity builders to support the Initiatives to strengthen their project management and financial literacy skills
Support of Initiatives:
· Act as the primary point person and liaison between The Base Initiatives and TCI support team in terms of administrative requirements, reporting, questions or concerns
· Support Initiatives to achieve their desired outcomes through day-to-day issue identification and problem solving as well as facilitated connections to existing community partners.
· Monitor compliance with The Base’s Terms of Reference with TCI as well as the Initiatives’ Terms of Reference with The Base.
· Facilitate the intake of new Initiatives to The Base including outreach, application and review process; recommendations for approval; intake and orientation
· Manage and maintain all Initiative administrative requirements such as timely filing of all funding proposals and reports, developing contracts and monitoring payments and reporting
· Assist Initiatives with funder communications and relationships and manage grants to ensure all commitments are met
· Facilitate links between Initiatives to ensure cross learning and peer networking
Qualifications:
· Significant experience with small or start-up organizations or initiatives and/or projects going through a period of change or growth
· Minimum of three years experience leading projects or teams within an organization
· Working knowledge of non-profit and charitable regulatory environment; understanding of shared administrative platform models or not for profit governance an asset
· Experience working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
· Demonstrated success in fundraising and proposal writing and grant management
· Experience keeping detailed records, including tracking expenses, statistics and reports
· Excellent organizational, time management and problem solving skills
· Ability to encourage and motivate others to achieve their goals
· Ability to think creatively and strategically, while remaining focused on the detail-oriented work and follow-through required by the position
· Ability to work independently with the support of a volunteer team
· Experience working with diverse communities
· Ability to work late afternoon/evenings from time to time
