The L’Arche community in Transcona has developed a social enterprise café at 119 Regent Ave. W. that offers nutritious meals to the general public while serving as a training facility and day program for people with developmental disabilities. L’Arche’s mission is to make known the gifts of people with developmental disabilities. More information about L’Arche can be found at www.larchewinnipeg.org 
 
L’Arche is seeking qualified applicants to fill the role of Café Manager. This position includes a 6 month probationary period. Remuneration will depend on qualifications and will be based on full time work, 40 hours/week, with benefits. 

Responsibilities

The café manager is accountable to the L’Arche Winnipeg community leader and will:
  • Embrace the Mission of L’Arche Winnipeg
  • Be responsible for hiring, training and termination of Café staff, including program managers and people with disabilities 
  • Manage the Café staff and work with the L’Arche Volunteer Coordinator to manage volunteers working for the Cafe
  • Menu development, pricing and costing 
  • Maintain necessary licensing and permit requirements
  • Develop the systems and processes to guide the day to day operations of the café including;
    • Cash handling 
    • Exceptional Customer service
    • Kitchen work flow and procedures
    • Organizational manuals
    • Food ordering
    • Catering
    • Cleanliness and timeliness
    • Inventory Control
  • Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers, customers and supporters of the café
  • Implement, monitor and adjust the café marketing plan 
  • Manage the Budget for the Café so that it breaks even or makes a profit
  • Train staff and volunteers
  • Develop the catering business of the café
  • Organize a risk management plan in case of staff emergencies or events like floods
  • Be highly visible in the café and general community

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Kitchen management
  • Working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Food services industry experience including kitchen management
  • Teaching or facilitation
  • Excellent Communication skills with customers, staff and volunteers
