About the Position

Food Matters Manitoba is seeking a part-time Community Liaison, 20 hours per week, $15-$17/hr based on qualifications for 6 months.  The Community Liaison is responsible for connecting with partners of the Manitoba Food Security Network with a particular focus on farm to cafeteria projects and facilitating community development based on recent and current food assessment projects.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the executive director, the successful applicant will:
  • Build awareness of Farm to Cafeteria Canada and network among provincial farm to cafeteria partners with a view to enhancing activities
  • Support pilot Farm to Cafeteria schools as needed
  • Support the needs assessment and strategic planning processes of Farm to Cafeteria Canada
  • Liaise with key St Vital organizations to support implementation of the vision outlined in the St Vital Community Food Assessment
  • Support other St Vital activities as time and community need express themselves
  • Coordinate and document two annual meetings of the Manitoba Food Security Network
  • Network with members of the Manitoba Food Security Network as time allows
  • Support the Community Food Assessment coordinator by facilitating activities in food assessment neighbourhoods
  • Liaise with Winnipeg FoodShare Co-op
  • Prepare appropriate funder reporting
  • Identify additional funding for community liaison position
  • Promote the work of Food Matters Manitoba

Qualifications:

  • Have a strong interest in and knowledge of food security issues within Winnipeg
  • Strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with the public
  • Experience in community development
  • Knowledge of Winnipeg food security organizations and activities
  • Highly organized with proven attention to detail 
  • Self motivated and a team player
  • High problem solving ability  
  • Able to work flexible hours
  • Able to exercise independent judgment but work well as part of a team
  • Skills in meeting management and community facilitation are an asset
