About the Position:
The Gang Action Interagency Network (GAIN) in partnership with University of Manitoba has been funded by the Department of Justice - Guns, Gangs and Drugs component of the Youth Justice Fund to complete a Community Assessment of a Gang Exit Strategy in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The overarching goal will be to prepare a recommendation of a gang exit strategy in Winnipeg, building upon the strategy day held last February. This project requires a short term gang exit program coordinator to do a youth and key informant consultation, complete a review of other gang-exit programs and to write a report which will be shared with policy makers. This project will provide the foundation of future proposals for a gang exit program in Winnipeg.
Support: The selected candidate will be employed as a contract worker at University of Manitoba They will have access to a carrel, laptop, internet, libraries and a phone at University of Manitoba (Manitoba Institute of Child Health - 715 McDermot Ave).
Wage: $20.64/hour + 12% benefits for 37.5 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
- Work with JustTV to create a video consultation for youth
- Key Informant Consultation (i.e. leaders in the gang field in Winnipeg)
- Review of all the known gang-exit programs in Winnipeg and then North America
- Determination of measurable indicators of gang activity as determined through key informant interviews and other gang exit programs (i.e. what can we use to measure success of a program?)
- Complete a written report on findings and a library of Gang strategies
- Help with organizing the follow-up meeting Strategy Day at end of March/early April where we will present the report.
Skills/Abilities
- Research Skills - interviewing, focus groups, accessing other research and synthesizing into actionable knowledge.
- Writing Skills
- Extensive experience working within the Youth/ Youth Violence community in Winnipeg is essential.
