The St. John’s Residents Association, in partnership with the North End Community Renewal Corporation (NECRC), is seeking a full time community development worker for the St. John’s neighbourhood within the North End of Winnipeg. 
 
The role of the Community Development Worker is to support and to work with local residents and stakeholders to build community capacity and to implement community priorities that address safety, housing, recreation, and economic goals. It is also to engage marginalized community members including newcomers, youth, and Aboriginalpopulations in neighbourhood renewal activities. The Worker is accountable to the St. John’s Residents Association Board and to the NECRC supervisor.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ongoing identification and mobilization of a diverse and representative resident leadership through various modes of outreach.
  • Organizational development and support to the resident associations, which includes monthly, executive, board/committee, and AGM meetings, leadership training, communication strategies, financial system development, and administration.
  • Support resident associations to develop and to implement strategic neighbourhood plans.
  • Human resource management of volunteers and project staff.
  • Program development and coordination, which includes event coordination, fundraising events, and publishing of quarterly newsletter.
  • Develop and maintain inter-agency coordination and collaboration of services in the local neighbourhood.
  • Develop annual work-plans in consultation with community residents and organizations and to report on the progress regarding these work-plans to the community and to funders.
  • Administrative duties, including grant proposal and report writing, tracking finances, keeping records of meeting minutes, and keeping track of timelines and deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • University degree/college diploma in a related field (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated community development experience and skills.
  • An understanding and a value of community development principles.
  • Ability to build relationship and community with diverse populations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with community members and organizations.
  • Demonstrated group facilitation skills.Experience in writing formal reports, funding proposals.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, and as part of a team.
  • Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Windows XP and Microsoft applications.
  • Priority will be given to those residing within the neighbourhood boundaries (Main Street, McGregor St and Redwood Ave, Caruthers Ave.) 

More info:

Salary: From $32,000 -$36,000 per year, depending upon qualifications.
