The Agency for Co-operative Housing administers the operating agreements of 547 not-for-profit housing co-operatives in PEI, Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia on behalf of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. A non-governmental organization, the Agency and its 45 employees are based in Ottawa and regional service centres in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.
Director, Lending and Default Prevention
Location: Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director, Lending and Default Prevention has full charge of the Agency’s default-prevention and management services. He or she advises on early-intervention and risk-mitigation strategies and directs efforts to help Agency clients secure new financing. Where external assistance is needed to affect a turnaround, the Director sees to the development of financial workouts for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s approval. He or she oversees the implementation and continuing performance of approved workouts, directing corrective action as necessary, overseeing the development of financial renewal plans and recommending loan-repayment plans to CMHC. Where a workout is not feasible or fails to restore a co-operative to solvency, the Director recommends an alternative course of action, through the CEO, for CMHC’s consideration.
The Director supervises a team of staff and contract analysts, establishing priorities and guiding their work. A member of the Agency’s management team, he or she chairs the Risk Management Forum.
The preferred candidate holds a recognized designation in real-estate financing and a university degree in housing economics, business administration or a related field or has equivalent work experience. Our chosen candidate has demonstrated the ability to think and act strategically, to develop innovative solutions to problems and to negotiate outcomes and agreements that meet multiple parties’ separate needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the gift of presenting complex analyses and solutions clearly and convincingly, are also necessary for success in this position. The ideal candidate is a flexible and creative problem-solver who is happiest leading a team of self-directed high achievers.
