Saskatchewan Co-operative Association (SCA) is a provincial coalition of co-operatives and credit unions which collaborates to support and promote the co-operative model for community and economic development. We lead youth education and engagement activities, provide co-operative development services, and offer learning and networking opportunities for the co-op sector. SCA requires a dynamic and progressive individual for a CreateAction Work Experience Program Intern position that (ideally) starts April 19, 2013. We are seeking someone with a passion for co-operatives, community economic development and lifelong learning. This six-month placement will focus on two main initiatives: the development and implementation of an in-depth member consultation process and the development of online and other learning materials. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Member Consultation Process
  • work with a task force and SCA staff to develop a member consultation process:
    • assist with the development of member consultation materials
    • assist with the consultations, which may be by survey, focus groups or one on one meetings 
    • compile and analyze consultation results and summarize into a report and recommendations
Learning Material Development
  • work with SCA staff to assist in the development of learning materials including webinars:
    • research and assessment of potential webinar models and software 
    • work with other staff to develop curriculum and content and possibly delivering some of the learning sessions (sample topics: Co-op Development, Co-op Basics, Financial Literacy, Youth Development)
    • develop and deliver lesson plans for Co-op Camp 
Other:
  • Must be willing and able to staff Co-op Camp, June 30-July 5
  • Other duties as assigned.
Core Competencies:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to function independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff, volunteers and participants
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to provide a clear routine criminal record check
Technical Competencies:
  • Knowledge of the co-operative sector would be an asset
  • Strong report writing, curriculum and training design 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products in necessary, knowledge of webinar software an asset 

CreateAction Interns must meet the following criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusively at the time of selection 
  • Be a post-secondary college or university graduate 
  • Be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a protected person within the meaning of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act 
  • Be legally entitled to work in Saskatchewan and Canada 
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial and/or territorial legislation and regulations 
  • Be out-of-school 
  • Not be receiving Employment Insurance benefits 
  • Can demonstrate a lack of labour market attachment to field of study (under-employed or unemployed) 
  • Can demonstrate that working in the field of community economic development is a career goal 
  • Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
