This position is made possible through the CreateAction Community Economic Development (CED) Work Experience Program. The purpose of this project is to provide employment and career relevant learning opportunities to young graduates to further their career in community economic development and the social economy.
A paid work experience with the Portage la Prairie Community Revitalization Corporation (PCRC) will provide hands on learning in the area of community development. The successful candidate will also participate in peer learning activities through the Canadian CED Network.
The Project Coordinator will work closely with PCRC staff and our Community Engagement Committee to plan and facilitate conversations with residents, community organizations, businesses and levels of government to create a community plan to address community development issues in Portage la Prairie. A special project during the internship period will be coordinating a transportation study exploring strategies such as public transit routes, shared shuttle services, car sharing, and active transportation such as walking and biking paths.
Specific job duties include:
- organizing community meetings and taking meeting minutes
- assisting in the creation and tabulation of community surveys
- identifying and reporting existing services and resources in our community
- researching innovative transportation strategies
- creating reports on activities to share with the community and funders
- assisting in the development of funding proposals
This is a term position to start as soon as possible and run to September 30, 2013. Hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week and the wage will be $15.00 / hour.
Participant Criteria
Participants must meet the following criteria:
- Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of selection
- A post-secondary college or university graduate, not currently enrolled in school
- Not currently working in your field of study (under-employed or unemployed)
- Not receiving Employment Insurance benefits
- Can demonstrate that working in the field of community development / community economic development is a career goal
- Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement (Government of Canada, Youth Employment Strategy)
