NORDIK Institute/Coalition for Algoma Passenger Trains (CAPT)

Under the direction of a Faculty Researcher, the Project Development Coordinator will plan, implement, and evaluate events along the Algoma rail lines in conjunction with stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • help plan, coordinate and develop events along the Algoma Central Railway and Huron Central rail line
  • organize and participate in meetings
  • coordinate promotions, workshops, meetings, marketing plans and presentations
  • maintain the CAPT website and email list
  • act as a liaison between communities, regional stakeholders and community partners
  • research tourism marketing, and tourism as a regional economic diversification strategy
  • recruit and engage volunteers
  • report on activities and provide recommendations for future development
  • attend meetings with project steering committees and the CAPT board
  • prepare grant and funding applications
  • participate in NORDIK research meetings

Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of the importance of rail in Northern Ontario
  • Knowledge of grass roots groups trying to preserve and enhance rail in Northern Ontario
  • Experience in writing grant and funding applications
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Website content management, social media and traditional media communication skills
  • Knowledge of community-based research methods
  • Knowledge of government rail policies and graphic design are assets

Qualifications:

A post-secondary graduate between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) who is out of school. The applicant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada, be legally entitled to work according to Ontario provincial legislation and regulations, and not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits. Priority will be given to young applicants who have one of the following kinds of barriers to employment: disability, Aboriginal ancestry, health problems, residence in a rural or remote location.

Working Conditions: The hours of work will be from 8:30 – 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday with some flexible hours.
