Summary of Function:

The coordinator of Community Development supports ethno-cultural communities. Using the Community Development approach, where the path to greater self-reliance must involve a process that empowers people and one that builds community and organizational capacity.

The Community Development intern will support the community development team in planning for summer activities and events, youth programs and data collection for program analysis.

Activities and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the Soccer youth project
  • Gather data from community programs for reporting purposes
  • Assist with program evaluations:  collaborate with development of measurement tools
  • Support community youth programs on different projects when needed
  • Support the entrepreneurship project and other community programs
  • Attend sector meetings on behalf of the agency
  • Write report on program activities
  • Ensures programs are tracked and findings reported
  • Contributes to the Community Development Team

Qualification requirements:

  • University degree or diploma in a related field such as Community Development, Economic Development, Human Ecology, Volunteer Management or related
  • Experiences in statistical data collection  and reporting would be an asset
  • Knowledge of Edmonton’s diverse communities.
  • Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent knowledge Ms word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint
  • Experience in statistical data collection  and reporting would be an asset

Applicants must meet the following requirements for this position:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at time of selection
  • A post-secondary institute, college, university or CEGEP graduate
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee status has been conferred
  • Legally entitled to work
  • Not in receipt of EI benefits
  • Unemployed or underemployed
  • Can demonstrate that working in the field of Community Economic Development is a career goal
  • Has not previously participated in a Career Focus work experience placement
