Main Job duties:
- Support community gardening and greening in the Spence Neighbourhood through: Working with SNA Environment and Open Spaces Coordinator and community members to plan, maintain, and improve on neighbourhood image, community gardens and green spaces in area. Assist SNA’s Environment and Open Spaces Coordinator with workshops on related skills, and encouraging community members to contribute their own knowledge. Demonstrate and contribute to practices such as organic garden care, recycling and composting and other long term beneficial environmental projects. Assist with organizing garden activities and events. Other outdoor maintenance work as needed. Record keeping of activities-photos, monthly reports, etc.
- Maintain community park project, Chief Grizzly Bear’s Garden through: Working with the Park’s Council and the City of Winnipeg to manage and maintain the perennial plants at the park. Report to the SNA Environment and Open Spaces Coordinator Plan Grand Opening of the park Maintain perennials, help plant perennials, maintain cleanliness of site.
Assets:
- Experience with Manitoba native plant gardening, landscaping, community programming/organizing,
- Composting and horticulture. Supervisory and mentoring experience for community members. Preference given to demonstrated knowledge of inner city issues and hands on experience. Excellent in oral and written communication skills-including languages other than English. Can work independently as well as cooperatively with others Knowledge of native/common plants, organic gardening, and a willingness to learn
