Director, Communications
We are currently seeking a Director, Communications. Reporting to the Vice President, Marketing & Engagement, the Director, Communications is responsible for the planning, development, and implementation of all internal and external communications. S/he will work with the Communications team as well as others within United Way to ensure that all communication strategies and tactics align with United Way’s overall strategic plan. S/he will direct the efforts of your team and their execution of campaigns, marketing initiatives, publications, and website development. Specifically, s/he will:
•• Manage communications, media and public relations including the development of communication strategies and plans, and evaluating plan outcomes to ensure integration with marketing and brand strategies, and to meet organizational objectives
•• Oversee all outbound marketing including market, outcome and positioning research, planning related to product development, monitoring of stakeholders supports, and ongoing brand evaluation and analysis
•• Lead planned and ad hoc communications programs, and manage project teams to effectively execute communications programs as required
•• Implement new ideas and continually contribute to the continuous improvement of communications programs and processes
•• Advance the United Way brand through specific programs that leverage a variety of communication channels (ie. written and electronic media)
You are a Communications professional with exceptional project management skills. You have a strong, proactive, team-based leadership style and also possess the following attributes:
•• Degree and/or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations or related discipline
•• A minimum of seven years of relevant experience in a senior capacity, preferably in a non-profit environment
•• Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop others; demonstrated ability to lead by example
•• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in:
o Production of communications strategies and plans
o Production of communications strategies and plans
o Demonstrated project management experience
•• Knowledge of publishing, print, and multi-media design and production processes (working knowledge with the Adobe suite of products) is an asset
•• Ability to work effectively to deliver measurable results in demanding environments with diplomacy and adaptability while handling multiple tasks, prioritizing activities,and meeting deadlines
•• Exceptional organizational skills, with particular attention to detail and follow-through
•• Strong understanding of outbound marketing with an emphasis on market, outcome and positioning research, product development planning, monitoring of stakeholder supports, and ongoing brand evaluation and analysis
•• Excellence in strategic planning and problem-solving
•• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain both internal and external relationships
•• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, to take initiative and demonstrate imagination and resourcefulness
•• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment and manage several tasks simultaneously
