Community Outreach Coordinator 
 
Vancouver Co-operative Radio, CFRO, 100.5 FM is a non-profit, listener-supported, community station that has provided Vancouver with alternative public affairs, music and arts programming since 1975. Co-op Radio provides a space for under-represented voices, music and  arts, broadcasting 24 hours a day in more than a dozen languages. The Community Outreach Coordinator will lead a strategic outreach initiative that will reach out to the diverse communities of Vancouver to increase Co-op Radio's visibility and connect people to the station. The work involves face-to-face outreach at local community events and musical shows as well as expanding the station’s social media presence.
 
This is a temporary part-time position reporting to the Director of Member Services. Funding for this position is provided by the Community Radio Fund of Canada. 
 
DATES: July 2013 to May 31, 2014. 
HOURS: 14 hours/week. 47 weeks total. Scheduling of hours is flexible. Must have some availability on at least two of the following days:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 
WAGE: $17/hr plus 12% in lieu of vacation and benefits, for a total of $19.04/hour.
 
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY 
Coordinate the execution of Co-op Radio’s Community Outreach Plan 2013-14 under the supervision of the Director of Member Services.
 
Primary tasks: 
• Coordinate community outreach materials including: development of outreach materials and kits; coordinating banner production; table display; all community-specific outreach materials 
• Work with volunteers and community organizations, festivals, conferences and other events to coordinate sponsorship and in-person presence at pre-selected cultural, arts, music-related events 
• Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers to work on community outreach activities 
• Develop creative, interactive event outreach ideas per event that achieve high event profile 
• Perform all strategic post-event follow-up: create email lists, engage new volunteers 
• Coordinate and oversee production of pre-recorded announcements for event publicity on air 
• Provide on-going support for radio show programmers’ outreach efforts in their communities and at their events: provide needed outreach materials; event tracking; follow-up 
• Perform tasks as a Co-op Radio Social Media Liason (Facebook/Twitter) 
• Conduct outreach efforts and coordinate community participation in On-Air Member Drives 
• Design and implement Listener’s Guide Distribution System for cross-community distribution 
• Work with show programmers to develop in-house Co-op Radio hosted event possibilities 
• Conduct administrative and other tasks related to Co-op Radio’s Community Outreach Strategy in the areas of traditional advertising, promotions, partnership building and niche show outreach 
• Gather and write enewsletter and Listener’s Guide content
 
QUALIFICATIONS 
• Excellent coordination skills; ability to perform a high volume of administrative and other tasks 
• Friendly, personable, and outgoing; ability to talk to a high-volume of strangers and trouble-shoot at busy events 
• Non-profit outreach experience and/or ground-level marketing experience; knowledge of marketing strategy an asset 
• Excellent communication/interpersonal skills: clear written/verbal communication, conflict resolution, ability to openly give/accept feedback, ability to dialogue with diverse parties and work effectively as team member 
• Excellent, thorough research skills 
• Detail-oriented; ability to provide editorial and copy-editing support 
• Event-organizing skills and volunteer coordination experience 
• Excellent time-management skills; ability to work independently on a project to completion 
• Familiarity and experience with Social Media (Twitter, Facebook) 
• Excellent computer skills including MS Word Suite. Graphic design skills an asset. 
• Experience with, and interest in, community broadcast media, preferably radio 
• Sound recording and editing experience an asset
