ABOUT THE PARTNER ORGANIZATION
The KALLPA Association is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that has been working since 1990 in the field of health in schools and health education, with four regional offices (Lima, Iquitos, Ayacucho and Cusco). Its mission is to promote the human development and the integral health of the most vulnerable populations. KALLPA soon identified the need to expand beyond its specialization in health to address issues of employment and income generation, maintaining its focus on young people and their involvement in the process of defining sustainable communities. KALLPA, with the support of Cuso and in alliance with the Municipality of San Juan de Miraflores and the Municipality of Cusco and other civil society organizations, have adopted the model of Carrefour Jeunesse Emploi de l’Outaouais and founded two Youth Employment Centers in October of 2009.
THE VOLUNTEER’S ROLE
Overall placement purpose:
To undertake Value Chain Research to form the basis of the Cuso program in the Cusco region for market based livelihoods development.
Specific Objectives:
- Identify potential value chains for development which will provide opportunities for poverty reduction
- Develop partnerships with key actors related to the chains
- Participate in future Cuso program planning for the Cusco region
- Network with local, national and international actors who influence market activities in Cusco
- Analysis of partners and programs in the area
- Conduct stakeholders workshops
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential requirements
- Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing or related field
- In depth knowledge and understanding of Value Chain approaches
- Extensive research experience in the field of market based approaches
- Ability to adapt market approaches to a developing country context
Desirable
- Experience living in developing countries or understanding of how markets work in rural contexts within developing countries
- Understanding of donor funding practices and criteria
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
- Attendance at a Cuso International assessment day (candidates must cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs)

- Accommodation while overseas
- A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed
