ABOUT THE SCHOOL FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS – ONTARIO (SSE-O)

Based on a successful model from the United Kingdom, the School for Social Entrepreneurs – Ontario (SSE-O) is an innovative educational and entrepreneurial program that provides action-based learning and skill development for entrepreneurs attempting to launch their own social venture. SSE-O programs are directed toward students from a diversity of economic, social, educational, and business backgrounds with a broad range of experience, perspective and skills. The objective of the SSE-O is to provide the skills, experience and opportunities that enable people to use their creative and entrepreneurial potential more fully for social benefit in their communities, and to contribute to a new model for prosperity in Ontario. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Interim Development Director is responsible for organizational development and major fundraising initiatives.  This is a key position and may require some travel within the province, leading the overall management, development, marketing, and sustainability of the SSE-O. You have solid communication skills, superior organizational skills, extensive experience in the social innovation sector, a proven track record of senior leadership responsibilities in the social sector, and an understanding of the barriers facing social entrepreneurs. This position is a starter, a finisher, a thinker and a doer committed to connecting a diverse array of people.  

LOCATION

SSE-O offices are located at the Centre for Social Innovation (CSI) Regent Park. 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES

  • Build on the success of the SSE-O model by securing major funds from a variety of sources (e.g. foundations, corporate sponsors, etc.);
  • Build a welcoming and inclusive community and manage relationships with business, not-for profit, community, education and government sectors;
  • Develop and steward partnerships to support the long-term sustainability of the SSE-O, including philanthropic contributions from foundations and corporate partners, and earned revenue activities;
  • Provide direction and support to staff, volunteers and consultants in order to meet the SSE-O’s core objectives;
  • Work closely in collaboration with SSE-O Steering Committee;• manage the organizational transitions, including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic oversight;
  • Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, and systems;
  • build, create, craft, analyze, produce, and implement human resources and organizational structure mapping, including relevant roles and responsibilities; 
  • Manage and oversee major process and program evaluations;
  • Maintain the online presence and collateral marketing materials;
  • Provide thought leadership on social entrepreneurship through occasional speaking engagements, presentations and blogs; and
  • Other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience

  • Proven senior and strategic leadership experience in community development, economic development, or social entrepreneurship;
  • Successful track record of direct fundraising expertise and experience in the Canadian charitable sector.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and direct experience in performing organizational development and growth within non-profit and/or charitable organizations.

  • Marketing skills, including handling the media and PR;

  • Negotiation skills (including financial arrangements).

This is a temporary full-time position with work on some evenings and weekends.
