RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide administrative support to the Campus Sustainability Office (i.e. reserve rooms, hospitality arrangements, filing system, invoicing and budget).
  • Schedule and make preparations for meetings.
  • Prepare purchase requisitions/order equipment such as recycling bins, supplies and communication documents as needed.
  • Participate in all meetings of Campus Sustainability Council and as required for meetings at the request of the Manager.
  • Maintain waste reduction programs (in consultation with the Director) and coordinate with the with other departments and external contractors.
  • Act as point-person for Green Office program  and provide information and material to participating offices.
  • Prepare and coordinate various special events and projects.
  • Draft promotional emails and posters to advertise the activities of the CSO.
  • Maintain CSO web and social media presence by updating pages as required.
  • Assist with the development of special projects under the supervision of the Director.
  • Maintain SMS database and record systems by assembling data from various University offices for sustainability reporting and entering data in appropriate spreadsheets.
  • Perform basic arithmetic chart functions in spreadsheets to organize research and compile information.
  • Assist with planning departmental programs and policies by researching best practices at other institutions and provide input in the creation of CSO strategies.
  • Represent the CSO externally at various conferences and fairs to ensure that the CSO remains current on environmental issues in Manitoba.
  • Represent the CSO internally at recruitment events and liaise with CSO and student groups (i.e. EcoPIA and GESSA) and coordinate efforts in campaign development when relevant.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an environmental or sustainability-relevant discipline AND/OR in a field that demonstrates ability with quantitative reasoning preferred.
  • Two (2) years position-relevant employment experience would be preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be passionate, self-motivated and demonstrate the potential to work in a dynamic, exciting, fast-paced working environment.
  • Must have computer skills in MS Office and internal/email communication.
  • Must have proven quantitative reasoning abilities and facility manipulating spread sheets.
  • Must have proven analytical ability.
  • Must be able to work effectively with a wide range of target audiences (students, faculty, staff, and community) and personalities
  • Must exhibit excellent problem solving skills to revolve issues to sound conclusions.
  • Must demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills while working with multiple priorities simultaneous.
  • Must be tactful and diplomatic.
  • Or equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities.
