The Lake Winnipeg Foundation is hiring a Communications & Marketing Coordinator. This is a one-year term position, with possibility of extension. The position is based out of Winnipeg, 40 hours per week, start date flexible (September/October 2013). Salary range: $35,000 – 40,000.
Job Summary
Build public awareness of the Lake Winnipeg Foundation (LWF) using diverse communications and marketing channels (e.g. print, web, media & event-based), to support effective programming and resource development activities
Develop, implement, monitor & adapt LWF’s strategic communications & marketing plans to cultivate a strong, positive, credible and consistent image for the organization
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director, the responsibilities of the Communications & Marketing Coordinator include:
- Planning
- Collaborate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of LWF communications & marketing strategies, policies, and procedures
- Ensure consistency and integration of LWF branding and key messages across all programs and projects
- Public Awareness and Education
- Collaborate with Executive Director and Graphic Designer in producing LWF’s biannual newsletter and other marketing materials as needed
- Distribute LWF newsletter to donors, partners, current and potential funders & through other avenues as appropriate. Maintain up-to-date outreach database.
- Lead LWF’s web and social media communications and marketing, to maintain a current, credible, and content-rich online presence
- Coordinate LWF grassroots fundraising events to increase public profile, and support LWF volunteers by providing marketing materials and tools.
- Develop press releases, handle communication and media requests, and respond to general public inquiries
- Program Support
- Develop education and outreach materials for LWF programs and projects, and coordinate joint communications with LWF partner organizations
- Maintain working knowledge of LWF programs and projects and issues affecting the health of the lake
- Fundraising
- Support the development of fundraising initiatives that align with the LWF brand and further the organization’s mission and vision
- Contribute to the maintenance and management of LWF’s donor database, and provide support to donor recognition and stewardship activities, as necessary.
Qualifications
The successful applicant will have:
- Bachelors or Master`s degree in Communications and Marketing, or related field
- Two years’ relevant work experience
- Solid understanding of communication and marketing principles& techniques
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work in diverse settings
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills (three samples of written work must be provided by all applicants)
- Strong organizational skills and proven attention to detail
- Exceptional time-management, ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Graphic design and brand development skills
- Proficiency in digital and web-based communications, and graphic design software
- Experience working in the non-profit sector is an asset
- Creativity and responsiveness to changing social contexts
- Adaptability and problem-solving skills
- Basic understanding of ecological principles, and interest in conservation and outdoor recreation
- Basic knowledge of project management and fundraising
- Working knowledge of computer word-processing, spreadsheet management, electronic mail and online communication tools (web, social media).
