Use your education to help start up a catering social enterprise with a three month PAID internship! The Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative is seeking a recent post-secondary graduate interested in honing their marketing and communications skills.
The Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative is an award-winning worker's coop that has been operating within the social development sector in Edmonton for the past 15 years. The Coop’s mission is to strengthen the capacities of multi-cultural communities in Edmonton to advocate for healthy and inclusive public policies, to improve the quality of life for immigrants and refugees, and to build solidarity among communities and with partners to achieve equity. http://mchb.org
The Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative (MCHB) is piloting a catering enterprise in Edmonton. Our business has a double bottom line: we are offering delicious multi-ethnic food that has been cooked from scratch AND generating profits that will go back to supporting our programming.
We are looking for a dynamic, forward thinking intern with intercultural skills who is passionate about food and social enterprise. The ideal candidate will have strong communication and marketing skills.
Primary duties include:
· Understanding and communicating the mission and vision of the catering enterprise
· Supporting the business by providing good customer service and working with the catering manager to implement changes based on customer feedback
· Developing a marketing plan and budget for the catering enterprise with support from the MCHB’s consultants
· Designing a logo, business cards and flyer for the catering business that is in keeping with the brand established by the Multicultural Health Brokers Cooperative
· Managing the design and development of web and social media platforms for the catering enterprise
· Completing others duties as identified based on the successful applicant’s interests and learning objectives.
Requirements:
- Background in business, marketing, journalism, and/or communications
- Experience operating in a multicultural environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- This position is subsidized in part by the Alberta Community and Cooperative Associations Internship program, consequently, applicants must have completed a BA or BSc degree, be currently unemployed or underemployed and be under 30 years of age. Applicants can not have received employment insurance benefits in the last three years.
Assets:
- Experience in the food and beverage industry
- Web design experience
This will be a 3-month, full-time (40 hrs/wk) position starting on November 1 2013 and paying $18.80/hr. The opportunity to transition to a full-time position may exist at the end of the internship. The intern will be working out of the Pacific Café or the Multicultural Health Broker’s office in Edmonton.
