Who We Need
We’re looking for someone who is creative and entrepreneurial that believes in our mission and vision. You bring strong community networks and have demonstrated ability to connect people to resources that enable and leverage the communities you’ve worked in. You’re a strong
community influencer and facilitator who loves to bring people and ideas together for action. As a systems thinker you are comfortable understanding complexity and ambiguity and translating that into what will work locally and practically.
Introduction
Momentum staff are expected to work co-operatively with others; demonstrate flexibility in organizing work; show a high degree of initiative, discernment, and resourcefulness; have good communication skills; and demonstrate thoughtfulness in decision-making.
Staff must be non-judgmental and receptive in approach, and reflect genuine concern, respect and commitment towards the individual, family, and community.

Community Economic Development Network:
Work with other organizations to enhance the knowledge, understanding and use of CED to address community challenges.
Indicators of Success:
- Momentum contributes to advancing CED locally, provincially and nationally
- Performance targets of Network’s Strategic Map are achieved.
- The Strategic Map of the Network is updated annually. Coordinate Thrive: Calgary’s Community Economic Development Network and its
- Committee meetings, events, planning sessions, communications, funding proposals, volunteer management, reports, and online presence.
- Seek out, build relationships and provide CED capacity building opportunities with individuals, groups and organizations interested/involved in CED and poverty reduction.
- Monitor CED projects and research in other parts of the city, province and country to ensure transfer of best practices to our own community based CED efforts.
- Seek out, support, and participate in existing CED initiatives in Calgary.
- Participate in broader CED networks including the Alberta and Canadian CED Networks.
- Support Momentum’s policy work related to poverty and CED.
Internal Capacity Building:
Make Momentum a strong learning environment where staff is connected to the community.
Indicator of success:
- 90% of staff feel that they are informed about community events, initiatives, campaigns, and areas for input into social policy.
- 90% of staff feel they understand the triple bottom line objective in the Business Plan.
- Take a leadership role in Momentum’s internal Sustainability Audit Group.
- Participate on relevant internal committees to promote community in the Momentum workplace.
- Promote workplace learning regarding community development, CED, and public policy.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, secure record keeping systems.
- Prepare reports and proposals as required.
- Respond to special projects as required, and as time permits.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in an appropriate discipline.
- Minimum of three years of professional community development, community economic development or public policy experience.
- Demonstrated abilities in working with, facilitating, and encouraging participation from a diversity of people and groups, including community leaders, business, government representatives, general public, and ethno-racial minority communities.
- Awareness of key socio-economic issues in Calgary and familiarization with Calgary context.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communications and group facilitation skills.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of Community Economic Development and poverty issues.
- Project coordination experience.
- Effective leadership and team building skills required; ability to work with a wide variety of individuals by using tact, diplomacy and flexibility.
- Ability to work independently within the context of the team.
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Access to own transportation.
- Computer literacy in word processing, database, email and Internet systems.
