As the Economic Development Officer of an organization recognized as one of BC’s top employers, reporting to the Manager of Special Projects, you will be responsible for facilitating and promoting economic development initiatives designed to grow the resort community economy, build confidence in the resort community economy and encourage re-investment in Whistler.
The Economic Development Officer’s main responsibilities include: assisting the Manager of Special Projects in the development of corporate policies, programs and procedures targeted at promoting ongoing economic development and encouraging reinvestment in the community; supporting the execution of a strategic action plan to further these goals; and assisting with the facilitation and ongoing support of the Whistler Economic Partnership Initiative (EPI) Committee. This permanent full-time role is expected to establish and maintain productive relationships with all stakeholders and continue the development of business friendly climate that contributes to the unique character and quality of life in the resort community.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Business, Public Administration, Commerce or a related field; graduate studies will be considered an asset and three to five years of progressively responsible professional experience in positions providing exposure to community development, business development and related activities. Familiarity in tourism, the mountain resort sector and/or sustainability related studies will be considered an asset. Essential to this role is considerable knowledge of community economic development trends and practices; global economic trends affecting the mountain resort industry; public administration and community planning principles and other sustainability-based approaches to economic planning. Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills and the proven ability to work in an environment requiring strong partnership and collaboration are critical to the success of this role.
