Background CCA has been contracted by the government of Ethiopia's Agricultural Transformation Agency (ATA) to provide technical guidance in order to introduce a commission-based marketing service.
Co-operatives in Ethiopia have limited involvement in output marketing and much of the gains from co-operatives' marketing do not accrue to farmer members. This is because the co-operatives lack the required capacity to become well-functioning output market service providers that market their members' products efficiently and on commission.
In order to achieve a more efficient value chain, CCA will inform on-the-ground activities by working with the partners to develop a system for co-operatives output marketing based on commission. In addition, CCA and the implementing partners will support 40 co-operatives in 1) awareness creation within their primary co-operative members, 2) financial modeling and analytical support in order to inform their commission rate, and 3) technical capacity building of the co-operatives' leaders and marketing experts.
Consultancy Purpose The main purpose of the assignment is to document the international best practices of commission based output marketing systems with possible adaptation to the Ethiopian context. The document will be an initial step towards preparation and development of a manual and training guide on commission based output marketing.
