The West End Cultural Centre (WECC) is a dynamic, not-for-profit arts organization which enriches the lives of artists, audiences and the community through the sharing of music and culture.
The WECC seeks a General Manager to collaborate with the Artistic Director in planning, organizing and managing the day-to-day activities of the organization.
Reporting to the volunteer Board of Directors, the selected candidate will work with the Operations and Artistic staff of the organization and will be expected to:
- Provide leadership, direction and overall support to the major functional areas of the organization, including operations, finance and community development;
- In association with the Board and other key employees, contribute to the development and implementation of strategic planning and initiatives of the WECC;
- Development and execution of the WECC operations planning process that considers the involvement of all relevant stakeholders; Actively seek new funding sources and maintain current sources as appropriate (ex. preparing funding proposals and ad hoc reports requested by funders);
- Maintain positive relations with funders, supportive organizations, local arts groups and related community groups;
- Stay current with relevant trends in music, arts and philanthropy
- Provide feedback to staff on performance on a regular basis;
- Prepare monthly and annual reports, including financial reports and budget analysis;
- Attend all Board meetings and selected meetings of Board committees
This is an exciting opportunity for a leader whose strengths include flexibility, creativity, teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills. Candidates should have experience in the not-for-profit and/or the arts sector, ideally in a leadership capacity. Essential skills include experience in fund development, financial management and budgeting, and staff leadership. Post-secondary education in arts management or not-for-profit business administration (or related discipline) is an asset, as is a background in arts and culture.
