Position Description:
Reporting to the Manager Family and Youth Services, the coordinator of I-WIN will work through existing ethno-cultural communities to create a forum for immigrant women to come together to take collective action of their underutilized skills, education and training and to generate solutions to family, social, community and economic problems.
Through facilitation and mentoring, the Coordinator will empower women to find meaningful and sustainable ways of taking charge of their future that includes portfolio development, paving the way to employment and career opportunities. This program will serve as a platform for immigrant women to begin adapting their existing skills and abilities to Canadian employment market, and to develop tools to prevent and counter isolation in Canada.
Responsibilities:
- To work as part of a holistic team and with cultural community groups to recruit, provide service delivery and evaluate the program. Staff and the cultural Community Connectors will provide on-going support and direction to participants under the leadership of the Coordinator.
- Provide comprehensive needs assessment completed through intake interviews, home visits, along with development of action plan for each client based on identified needs and barriers
- Organize workshops and meetings on topics relevant to settlement and labour market in Canada
- To deliver and evaluate the program
- To supervise Community Connectors, including volunteers in the co-facilitation aspects of the program
- To case manage the participants in the program by developing Capacity Mapping for immigrant women and ensuring a Portfolio Development experience and completions of Career Portfolios
- To advocate on the participants’ behalf to programs, institutions and service providers
- To ensure financial coordination and compliance of the program
- To ensure documentation coordination of the program; report writing and the gathering of statistical information
- To develop Program Curriculum and implementation plan
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Demonstrates strong initiative and commitment to providing quality services working in an intercultural environment with immigrant women
- Experience in holistic case management and program delivery including arranging logistics, engaging presenters and working with partner agencies.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment and 2-5 years program coordination experience in the non profit sector
- Knowledge of Asset Based Approach, Portfolio and Leadership Development
- Ability to manage time effectively, flexibility and open-minded
- Ability to perform a variety of diverse tasks with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in languages other than English/French
- Ability to create a team and work collaboratively with other colleagues and other service providers
- Ability to research; library, internet
- Evening and weekend work required
Education/Technical Skills:
- Post-secondary education, diploma or degree, preferably in community development or related fields
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point
- A clean driving abstract and car is needed for this position
