Summary of Function:
Reporting to the 82nd Street Site Manager, the Settlement Counselor Coordinator will oversee the work of the Settlement team. Besides providing supervision and coordination for the Settlement team, the Settlement Counselor Coordinator will also assist vulnerable clients facing multiple barriers through more intensive settlement services, including itinerant services, and supported referrals, as needed.
Key/Responsibilities – Settlement Counselor Coordinator
- Supervise the work of Settlement Counselors; including review of clients physical files, NewOrg and iCARE database entries
- Coordinate and manage a case load of immigrant/refugee individuals and families facing complex issues and circumstances
- Assist Program Manager in the preparation of quarterly clients’ statistical and narrative reports to the Funder
- Input clients’ data into CIC iCARE and the Agency database; and prepare clients’ files
- Facilitate information and orientation workshops and group sessions based on relevant and essential settlement topics
- Supervise Settlement Counselors’ activities and monitor staff schedules, including the review and approval of Replicon time sheets.
- Coordinate and facilitate settlement team meetings and case conferences
- Participate in Team Lead meetings
- Assist in recruitment, selection and orientation of new staff
- Participate in Agency committee meetings (e.g. Administration Committee)
- Attend Extended Leadership Team meetings on a monthly basis
- Assist the Program Manager with annual Staff performance appraisals
- Keep informed about program offerings, resources of other agencies, institutions, etc.
- Respond to and coordinate the settlement needs of immigrants that ‘drop in’ for services
- Communicate with the frontline staff to ensure that clients are receiving timely and quality services and that referrals are made to the appropriate staff members
- Ensure collaborative team work from staff, and plays a role in staff recognition and other motivators for excellent work
- Participate in community service coalitions external to the agency on and as needed basis
- Respond to partner service providers and community groups who request supplementary workshops and in-services.
- Prepare annual application and implement the ‘Donate-a-ride’ program
- Take on other responsibilities that may arise
Qualification requirements:
- Working understanding of the complexities of immigrant settlement issues; including housing, health, employment, and family dynamics
- Working knowledge of comprehensive, up-to-date information about resources to meet the settlement needs of refugees with complex circumstances
- Relevant undergraduate degree or diploma in Social Work or related human services fields (human ecology, education, psychology, family support work or related fields)
- RSW designation if eligible
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment and 2-5 years program coordination and case management in the non profit sector
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and strong commitment to providing quality services to newcomers
- Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, MS Word, Excel, Internet and e-mail
- Proficiency in both official languages is an asset, as is fluency in other languages
- Some evening or weekend work may be required for group facilitation and follow-ups
- Possess a valid class 5 driver's license and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage for work
- Knowledgeable and abides by FOIP regulations
- Understand and adhere to professional code of ethics
