One of Canada’s premier privately-operated, non-profit environmental education organizations is seeking a Program Coordinator to join the team of our unique and dynamic FortWhyte Farms program. Since 2003, FortWhyte Farms has been working with marginalized youth, using the practice of sustainable agriculture to build confidence and leadership skills, provide employment training, and instil values of individual and community self‐reliance.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Social Enterprise Programs Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of core FortWhyte Farms programming to marginalized youth as well as other programs and activities based at FortWhyte Farms. This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week) term position (April to mid-Nov) with possibility of renewal in January 2015.

The successful candidate will have:

  • demonstrated leadership experience and related post-secondary education in the development and delivery of programming related to personal growth and development of marginalized youth
  • proven ability to train, supervise and motivate a staff team
  • training or equivalent experience in culinary skills and nutrition or related field
  • experience in small-scale sustainable agriculture techniques, including horticulture and animal husbandry
  • proven initiative and problem solving skills
  • exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • physically fit and capable of manual labour
  • demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • outstanding customer service skills
  • an enthusiastic, genuine appreciation of FortWhyte Alive’s mission and mandate
  • valid Driver’s License (Class 4 preferred) and access to private transportation
  • satisfactory background checks of the child abuse registry and criminal records
