The British Columbia Co-operative Association, the umbrella organization that works on behalf of co-ops and credit unions in British Columbia seeking a Marketing and Communications Coordinator on a half-time, contract basis to meet their Communication Plan targets. The objectives of the position are to build and disseminate compelling communications content that will help BCCA to:
- Become a relevant resource for people interested in co-operatives
- Promote the co-operative sector through social & digital media
- Build strong relationships with member co-operatives who are using social media
- Promote BCCA workshops, conferences, events, programs, meetings and resources
- Increase awareness of the benefits of BCCA membership
Duties of the Position
- Create visually exciting, branded communications & marketing materials, including our e-newsletter
- Expand the dissemination of communications materials from a current base of 600 recipients to 2,500 recipients
- Build cross-promotion opportunities in the co-op sector, including BCCA member benefits
- Develop video resources and promotions
- Develop, acquire and distribute information of relevance to the co-op sector
- Increase traffic to BCCA’s website and social media
- Develop media relationships
- Provide communications support for BCCA programs, committees and projects, e.g., youth program, co-op development program, elder care project, Government Relations committee and Communications committee
- Provide support for BCCA’s member recruitment activities, including management of our contact database
- Perform related administrative duties commensurate with the position, including setting and meeting budget targets
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong familiarity with the co-op enterprise model (mandatory)
- Proven track record in marketing and communications for not-for-profit organizations (mandatory)
- Strong computer skills, especially desktop publishing programs (mandatory and preferably Indesign)
- Proven high level administrative skills with impeccable attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a busy office environment with periods of high volume
- High degree of resourcefulness, ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication (including writing) skills
- Experience developing and maintaining budgets
- Professional, friendly, and highly motivated team player with a positive attitude
Desired Training and Experience:
- University degree/college diploma in marketing/communications
Terms of Employment:
This is a half-time contract position beginning May 1, 2014, renewable on April 1st of each year. The contract fee is $30,000 plus GST. The Coordinator must work out of the BCCA office.
