UGAMA is the Centre for Co-operative Services located in Gitarama, Rwanda. It is one of the key organizations undertaking co-operative development assistance in the Southern Province. UGAMA’s interventions focus on training (accounting, financial analysis), member participation, gender sensitization, as well as other capacity-building (management and marketing advice) activities with the aim of enabling members to promote the development of their own co-operatives. It also supports intra- and inter-cooperative exchanges, and provides a fund to help finance new and innovative business activity. UGAMA’s program participants are: small farmer co-operatives (24,000 members) and their secondary groups, credit and savings co-operatives (9,000 members) as well as three co-operatives involved in food processing.
The Project-RWANDA: CO-OPERATIVE AGRICULTURAL GROWTHGH (RCAG)
CCA and UGAMA will work together building on the success of the previous project that engaged Rwandan agricultural co-operatives; this project will improve the agricultural production, productivity and marketing capacity of 15 co-operatives and their members in vulnerable, food-insecure communities in two provinces (7 districts) of Rwanda.
Activities:
The Information Communications Officer will:
- Assist UGAMA staff to prepare strategic and operational plans for the information
- communications sharing with UGAMA’s partners and beneficiaries(Cooperatives)
- Assist UGAMA staff to develop, manage and maintain RCAG project documentation and information
- Participate in the planning and coordinating the design and development of IT systems
- Plan and participate in the implementation of new database and IT systems strategies
- Assist UGAMA staff to maintain a database of request from various partners and be capable of writing papers
- Assist UGAMA Staff to analyze, consolidate, tune database and RCAG Project results for optimal efficiency
- Assist UGAMA Staff to manage and update website as requested
- Assist UGAMA Staff to perform backup and restore of a website
Qualifications
The Information Communications Officer must have the following qualifications:
- University degree in the field of telecommunications, computer science or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer operations systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of computer software and how to implement such software
- Ability to train and advise employees on the use of computers and software packages
- Demonstrated ability to resolve mechanical/technical problems with emphasis on
- troubleshooting
- Demonstrated maturity to work in high-pressure situations with good humor, grace, and a positive attitude
- Understanding of cooperatives or member-based business enterprises
- Demonstrated ability and interest in communicating and interacting effectively with people of a different culture
- Able to work in a team
- Can work in dynamic situations and is able to be flexible and adapt to change
- Takes initiative, set goals, and manage time independently, while seeking guidance and direction from your manager
- Bilingual French and English
IYIP Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the international Youth Internship Program, an intern must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be a post-secondary graduate
- Be out of school
