Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands) is located off the north coast of British Columbia, 100 miles from Prince Rupert, world famous for its Haida Culture, Gwaii Haanas National Park, its great sense of community, incredible natural environment, and its sport fishing. The population is approximately 4300 that is spread out over seven communities. Members of the Haida First Nation are approximately 50% of the population.
Haida Gwaii Community Futures is a community economic development organization enhancing the capacity of islanders to be active participants in building a successful local economy and a resilient islands community. Many changes are impacting Haida Gwaii – two key changes are in the forestry and fishing industries and the Haida First Nation taking a major role in managing the Islands’ natural resources. Our goal is to help the people of the islands transition to this new reality.
The Coordinator promotes building the Islands’ entrepreneurial capacity and assists individual clients develop sound business plans and obtain financing for business and social enterprise startups and expansions that contribute to building the islands economy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Connecting with people across the communities to promote innovation and business development and how Community Futures can help.
- Providing counseling, coaching, mentoring, and skills training to clients as they plan their businesses, obtain financing and start up their operations
- Loan application review, analysis and approval
- Loan document preparation, security registration, and administration
Education and Skills
Diploma or Degree in Business or relevant professional development certificates
Demonstrated experience:
- coaching, counseling and training
- business planning
- business and financial analysis, and
- excel spreadsheet preparation
Experience working in First Nation communities is an asset
